Ahlbeck is the easternmost of Usedom's Kaiserbäder, the last German resort before the Polish border, and its pier from 1898 is the oldest surviving pier in Germany. The white wooden pier building with its four corner towers and green roofs, and the Art Nouveau clock that stands in front of it on the promenade, are the town's trademarks. The live webcam looks out from the promenade over the pier and the beach. The beach is a broad strip of fine, pale sand facing north-east, part of the long beach that runs without a break along this side of the island from Bansin past Heringsdorf to Świnoujście. Westerly winds, the most common on the Baltic, blow offshore here and keep the water calm and shallow near the beach, which makes it a family and swimming beach; north-easterly winds blow onshore and bring short waves. Lifeguards are on duty at the main beach in the season. A walk or bike ride east along the promenade takes you into Poland within minutes, and the island railway links Ahlbeck with Heringsdorf, Bansin and the rest of Usedom.
