Nørre Vorupør is a fishing village on the North Sea coast of Thy in north-west Jutland, inside Thy National Park, and one of the spots that make up 'Cold Hawaii', the stretch of coast between Agger and Hanstholm that is famous among surfers and windsurfers. The village is one of the last places in Denmark where fishing boats are still hauled straight up onto the open beach by winch, a tradition that gives the beach its working character, with a long concrete breakwater reaching into the sea beside the landing place. The coast faces west-north-west, so westerly and north-westerly winds blow onshore and bring powerful North Sea waves, which suit windsurfers and kitesurfers in strong wind; the cleanest surf comes with lighter easterly or south-easterly offshore winds, when the waves break over sandbanks on either side of the breakwater. The water is cold most of the year, and the currents around the breakwater and the boats can be strong, so this is a spot for experienced riders and careful swimmers, with a lifeguarded area in summer. Klitmøller, the best-known Cold Hawaii spot, lies about ten kilometres to the north. Off Vorupør, the sea temperature peaks in August.
