Tiana Beach is a Town of Southampton beach on Dune Road in Hampton Bays, on the narrow barrier beach that separates Shinnecock Bay from the Atlantic on the south shore of Long Island's East End. It is one of the westernmost of the Hamptons ocean beaches, a few miles west of Shinnecock Inlet, and the site has both an ocean beach and a sheltered bay beach on the Shinnecock Bay side, which makes it popular with families who want calmer water. This live beach cam from Hamptons.com looks over the ocean side. The south shore of Long Island faces south, so it takes swell from hurricanes and tropical storms in late summer and fall, from southerly wind swell in summer, and from nor'easters in winter; north winds are offshore. The sandbars here shift with storms, and rip currents are the main danger on the ocean side. Lifeguards work in the summer season, roughly Memorial Day to Labor Day, and parking in season needs a town permit or a daily fee. The water is around 5 °C in late winter and 21 to 24 °C in August. Dune Road is exposed, and storm surges have overwashed it more than once.
