Le Val-André is the seaside half of Pléneuf-Val-André, on the eastern side of the Bay of Saint-Brieuc in the Côtes-d'Armor. Its main beach is a long, gently shelving stretch of fine sand facing north-west, lined by a promenade and a row of late nineteenth-century villas, with the Pointe de Piégu and its small harbour closing it to the west. Offshore lies the Île Verdelet, a bird reserve that you can reach on foot at the lowest tides, though only with the tide tables in hand, because the water returns fast across the flats. The bay is sheltered from most Atlantic swell, so this is a beach for swimming, paddleboarding and sailing rather than surfing, and the large tidal range means the waterline can be several hundred metres away at low tide. The GR34 coastal path passes along the headlands at each end. Sea temperature in the bay is close to 10 °C in February and reaches around 18 °C in August. The webcam is a Windy timelapse looking out over the beach, handy for seeing how far out the tide is.
