Balos is a quiet beach on the south-west coast of Samos, in Ormos Koumeikon below the hill village of Koumeika, in the municipal unit of Marathokampos, part of West Samos. The coast here looks south across the Aegean, and the view takes in the bay and, on clear days, the mountains along the shore to the west. The live stream comes from Hotel Amfilissos, which stands a few hundred metres west on the same waterfront; by day it shows a pebble shore with very clear water, a seafront road protected by a low wall, a small concrete jetty and the beach running east. Balos suits swimmers and snorkellers more than surfers: it is a long way from the busy resorts in the east of the island, and the south-facing water is often flat in the northerly winds that dominate the Aegean summer. A southerly is the wind that brings waves onto this shore. Look at the stream first, then at the outlook for wind, waves and water temperature at Balos, before heading down to the coast.
