Marina di Ragusa is the seaside town of Ragusa, on the southern coast of Sicily, and in summer it becomes the main beach for the whole province. Its beach is a long run of fine golden sand on either side of a lively seafront promenade, facing south towards the open sea between Sicily and Malta. Inland, half an hour's drive away, lie Ragusa Ibla and Modica, two of the late-baroque towns of the Val di Noto that are listed together as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This is one of the warmest stretches of sea in Italy, with water that reaches about 26 to 27 °C in August and rarely drops much below 15 °C in winter. The prevailing north-westerly winds blow offshore and keep the sea calm near the beach, while the scirocco from the south-east, often hot and dusty from Africa, and southerly storms bring onshore waves and sometimes a usable windsurf and kite breeze along this coast.
