Bergen aan Zee is a small seaside village in North Holland, the beach of the inland town of Bergen, set between some of the highest and widest dunes on the Dutch coast, part of the North Holland Dune Reserve. It has a short boulevard, a handful of hotels and restaurants, and the Zee Aquarium, and the beach is quieter than at Egmond aan Zee to the south. The live webcam looks from the village down over the beach and the sea, with a weather panel showing current readings. The beach faces west into the North Sea, so westerly and south-westerly winds blow onshore and bring the waves, north-westerly winds bring a short, steep chop, and easterly winds come over the dunes as an offshore breeze that cleans the waves up. On those clean days surfers paddle out on the sandbanks in front of the village, while kitesurfers prefer side-onshore south-westerly or north-westerly winds and use the stretches away from the beach entrance. Rip currents are common between the banks, so swimming is safest near the lifeguard post in the summer season. The dunes behind the village are crossed by footpaths and cycle routes to Bergen and Schoorl. The sea temperature at Bergen aan Zee is highest in August.
