Fulong Beach is the bathing beach of Fulong in Gongliao District, New Taipei, on Sandiao Bay in the north-east corner of Taiwan, where the Shuang River reaches the sea. It is one of the best-known sandy shores in the north and a rare golden-sand beach on a coast that is mostly rock. The river splits the sand into an inner beach and an outer beach; a footbridge links them, and because the river mouth keeps moving, in some years the bridge reaches the outer beach and in others it ends in the water. The beach opened during Japanese rule and in 1959 passed to the Taiwan Railway Administration, which built changing rooms and showers next to Fulong Station on the Yilan Line; today it is run by the scenic-area administration for the north-east coast and Yilan. Since 2000 the Hohaiyan Rock Festival has been held on the sand in July or August, and since 2008 an international sand-sculpture festival. The sand has been retreating, which is blamed on river works upstream and a jetty built for the nearby fourth nuclear plant. This 4K live cam from the scenic area shows the beach and the bridge.
