Oostduinkerke is the beach for people who like space. At low tide the sand here reaches 250 to 700 metres from dune to water, and it carries on for more than 30 km through De Panne to Dunkirk in France. With no groynes breaking it up and a very gentle slope, it has long been popular with sand yachters and parakarters, who need wind and a firm surface more than waves. This is also the last place where shrimpers still fish on horseback, a tradition that once ran along the North Sea coast; 17 of them were active in 2021, and their heavy horses are a real attraction when they wade through the surf. The municipality of Koksijde operates this beach webcam at Oostduinkerke-Bad, the resort half of the village, set among protected dunes. The picture looks out over a low dune, a lifeguard post and the open beach. Check the tide first, because high water removes most of the riding room. The wind forecast and sea temperature below complete the picture.
