Songjeong Beach is in Haeundae District at the eastern edge of Busan, South Korea, a few kilometres north-east of the famous Haeundae Beach along the coast. Haeundae takes its name from the ninth-century Silla scholar and poet Choe Chiwon, whose pen name was Haeun, sea and clouds; it is the most populous district of Busan and its beaches are among the city's best-known sights. Songjeong is a curved, sandy bay with a small wooded islet at one end and a promenade, cafes and hotels behind the sand, and it is the beach in Busan most associated with surfing: photos on Wikimedia Commons show rows of surfboards laid out on the sand and riders in the water. The old Songjeong railway station of the Donghae Nambu Line still stands near the beach. This beach webcam is streamed by the Ola Hotel, which faces the sand, and looks down over the entire sweep of sand; at night the illuminated promenade traces the shore. The beach faces south-east to the East Sea, so swells from typhoons and passing lows reach it, while calm days suit swimming and paddleboarding.
