Slanica is the best-known sandy beach on Murter, an island in the north-west of the Šibenik archipelago linked to the mainland by a short drawbridge over a 20-metre canal at Tisno. Most of Murter's coast is rock, and its south-western side is steep slopes cut by coves, several of them sandy; Slanica is one of these, a shallow bay a short walk from Murter town with a campsite and pine trees behind it. You can wade a long way out before it gets deep, which is why families like it, and from here boats leave for the uninhabited Kornati islands offshore. The bay faces west and south-west, so the bora from the north-east is offshore and a mistral or southerly sirocco is what roughens the water.
