York Harbor Beach is a small, sheltered pocket of sand in the village of York Harbor, in southern Maine, tucked between rocky points just east of the entrance to the York River. It is a neighborhood beach rather than a resort strip: the old summer hotels and shingled cottages of York Harbor sit above it, and the Fisherman's Walk and the Cliff Walk lead from here along the shore. This live beach cam from Boston and Maine Live looks over the beach and the water toward the open Gulf of Maine. Because it faces southeast and is partly enclosed by rocks, the beach is usually calm, a good place for families and for a cold swim on a hot day; bigger seas from nor'easters and hurricane swell do reach it in fall and winter. The Gulf of Maine is cold, around 16 to 18 °C at the warmest in August and near 4 °C in late winter, and the tide range is large, about 9 feet, so the beach is much wider at low tide. Parking right at the beach is very limited and mostly by town permit, so many visitors walk in from York Harbor village. Long Sands Beach and Short Sands in York are a few miles north.
