Yyteri is one of Finland's best-known beaches, and people surf here: about six kilometres of open sand facing the Bothnian Sea, roughly 17 km from the centre of Pori and some 260 km from Helsinki. It is one of the longest beaches in the Nordic countries, and its dune area is unusually large by European standards, so much of the shore is protected. A nature trail of 1.8 km starts from the car park and is a good way to see the sand plants without trampling them. Behind the beach you will find a spa hotel, a restaurant and an 18-hole golf course, with beach volleyball, riding and more than 30 km of hiking routes nearby. This surf cam, from the Pori webcam channel, looks down the beach to the low wooded point beyond. Autumn usually brings the strongest low-pressure systems, and with them the waves; a long wetsuit is essential, and ice closes the sea in winter. Waves here are short wind swell, not ocean groundswell, so they come and go quickly. Follow the surf forecast and sea temperature below to catch them.
