The Plage du Midi stretches west from the Old Port of Cannes along the Boulevard du Midi towards La Bocca, and unlike the Croisette, where much of the sand belongs to private beach clubs, most of it is free public beach. It is a long, fairly narrow strip of sand facing south across the bay towards the Îles de Lérins, Sainte-Marguerite and Saint-Honorat, which are reached by ferry from the port. The islands and the curve of the bay keep the water calm on most days, and the beach is popular with locals for swimming and evening walks; south-westerly and southerly winds are the ones that bring a short swell and some shore break. A railway line and the boulevard run right behind the sand, so access is easy along its whole length. Sea temperature is about 13 °C in February and around 24 °C in August, and the water often stays above 20 °C well into October. The webcam is a live YouTube stream looking along the Boulevard du Midi and the beach, so you can see the sea and the crowds in real time.
