La Marinedda is a crescent of white sand a short way east of Isola Rossa, the fishing village and small resort on the north coast of Sardinia that takes its name from the red granite islet off its harbour. It belongs to the municipality of Trinità d'Agultu e Vignola, on the Gulf of Asinara between Castelsardo and Costa Paradiso, and it is one of the most photographed beaches on this stretch of coast: shallow turquoise water, pink and red rocks at each end, and low dunes and scrub behind. The bay opens to the north, which makes it very exposed to the mistral, the north-westerly that dominates northern Sardinia; on those days the sea turns rough and swimming can be dangerous, while southerly winds leave the bay calm and glassy. In summer there are kiosks and sunbed hire, and the gentle shelf suits families and paddleboards. Sea temperature is around 14 °C at the end of winter and about 25 °C in August.
