Playa Norte is the beach on the northern tip of Isla Mujeres, the narrow island about 13 km off Cancún across the Bahía de Mujeres. Passenger ferries cross from Puerto Juárez and from the Cancún hotel zone in roughly twenty minutes, and the beach is a short walk from the island's ferry dock and its small town, a Pueblo Mágico since 2015. The water is the attraction: pale turquoise and so shallow that you can wade a long way out with the sand still under your feet, which makes it one of the easiest places on the Mexican Caribbean for small children. Because the beach faces north and west rather than the open Caribbean, the easterly trade winds and the swell they raise mostly pass it by, and the sun sets over the water. The live cam on this page, run by Webcams de México, looks down over the palms, the beach and the boats that anchor off it, so you can check the crowd and the colour of the water before taking the ferry. Water temperature runs from about 26 °C in February to around 29 °C in late summer. Hurricane season lasts from June to November.
