Klein Curaçao is a small, flat, uninhabited island about 25 km south-east of Curaçao, reachable only by boat. It has no hotels, roads or permanent residents: just a long white beach on its sheltered western side, an old pink-walled lighthouse in the middle of the island, and on the windward east coast the rusting wrecks of ships driven ashore by the trade winds. Day-trip boats from Curaçao, mostly leaving from Spanish Water early in the morning for a crossing of around two hours, anchor off the beach, where the water is shallow, warm and very clear, ideal for snorkelling over sand and coral and for spotting sea turtles, which also nest on the island. The crossing can be rough, because the boats head into the easterly trade wind and its waves on the way out. The live cam on this page is streamed by SHOWME Caribbean in partnership with a boat-trip operator and looks over the beach and the turquoise anchorage, a good way to see the sea state and how many boats are out. The water is about 26 to 29 °C all year, and the trade wind blows strongest from roughly January to July.
