Les Sables Blancs is the beach of Tréboul, the western quarter of Douarnenez in Finistère, and as its name says it is a strip of pale sand on the south shore of the Bay of Douarnenez. It faces north across the bay towards the Crozon peninsula, which shelters it from the big Atlantic swells that hit the outer coast, so the water is usually calm enough for swimming, paddleboarding and kayaking, and the beach is a favourite with local families. A promenade runs behind the sand, and the small Île Tristan and the port of Tréboul are a short walk to the east. Northerly and north-easterly winds blow straight onto the beach and can raise a short chop, while the prevailing westerlies come along the shore. The tide range is large, as everywhere in Brittany, and at low water the beach widens a great deal. Sea temperature is about 11 °C in late winter and reaches roughly 18 °C in August.
