Binz is the largest seaside resort on Rügen, Germany's biggest island, and one of the classic spa towns of the Baltic coast, known for its white villas with ornate wooden balconies in the local seaside-resort style. A promenade several kilometres long runs behind the beach past the Kurhaus to the pier, and the beach itself is a broad curve of fine, pale sand along the Prorer Wiek bay, continuing north towards Prora. The live webcam looks along the beach from the south with the pier and the wooded hills of the Granitz in view. Because the bay faces east, the prevailing westerly winds blow offshore here, so on most summer days the water is flat and clear right up to the beach, and only easterly winds bring onshore waves. That shelter, together with the gently shelving sand, makes Binz a family and swimming beach first, with paddleboarding and sailing on calm days. Look out for the futuristic white lifeguard tower by the East German architect Ulrich Müther at the northern end of the promenade. Lifeguards are on duty in the season, and the water is warmest from late July into August. The Binz beach webcam and the forecast below show today's wind and sea temperature.
