The north and west beaches take swell from the west to the north, usually short-period wind swell, and clean up in a southerly wind; groynes and sandbars shape the peaks. Kitesurfers and windsurfers use the same beaches in westerly winds. Ferry from Norddeich; cold water, best from autumn to spring.
