Lido di Jesolo is the long beach of Jesolo, on the Adriatic just north-east of Venice, and one of the biggest seaside resorts in Italy. The sand runs for around fifteen kilometres between the mouths of the Sile and the Piave, fine and pale, with rows of umbrellas from bathing establishments in front of an almost continuous line of hotels and a long pedestrian street behind them. It is especially popular with visitors from Germany and Austria, and Venice is close enough for a day trip by bus and boat. The beach faces south-east, the water is shallow for a long way out and there is little surf, which makes it a classic family beach; the bora, a cold gusty wind from the north-east, can whip up a short chop and push floating things offshore, and the scirocco from the south-east brings onshore waves and higher water. Lifeguards watch the beach through the summer season. Sea temperature is about 9 to 10 °C in February and around 26 °C in August, among the warmest in the northern Adriatic.
