Renesse is a lively seaside village on the north coast of Schouwen-Duiveland in Zeeland, known for its long, wide beach, its many beach pavilions and, in summer, its crowds of young holidaymakers. The beach runs for kilometres along the North Sea between the dunes of the Kop van Schouwen in the west and the Brouwersdam in the east, and is reached through dune paths from the village and its holiday parks. Inland, the medieval Moermond castle stands at the edge of the village. The live webcam looks from a beach pavilion over the sand and the sea east of the village centre. The beach faces north-north-west, so north-westerly winds blow onshore and bring the waves, westerly winds run side-on along the shore, and southerly winds come off the land and flatten the sea. On onshore days the beach is used by surfers and kitesurfers, while beginners often head to the flat water of the nearby Brouwersdam and the Grevelingen lake. The sandbanks off Renesse create rip currents, so swimming is safest at the guarded beach entrances during the season. Sea temperature is highest in August, when the village is at its busiest.
