Platja Nord is the main beach of Gandia, a town in the Safor district of Valencia province, and one of the busiest summer beaches on this part of the coast. It is about three kilometres long and unusually wide, with fine golden sand and a long, flat seafront promenade lined with apartment blocks, bars and ice-cream shops; Gandia's fishing and sailing harbour, El Grau, marks its southern end. The beach faces east and shelves very gently, so on calm summer days you can wade a long way out, which makes it popular with families, and the town is also a classic holiday spot for students from Madrid and Valencia. Lifeguards, accessible bathing points and beach facilities run through the season. In summer a light sea breeze from the east or south-east sets in each afternoon; the stronger levante storms of autumn and spring bring waves straight onto the sand and can erode it. South of the harbour the quieter Platja de l'Ahuir continues with dunes. The water is about 14 °C in February and reaches 26–27 °C in August.
