Arcadian Shores is the northern end of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, a stretch of the Grand Strand between the city's north side and Briarcliffe Acres where the high-rise hotels thin out and the beach is a little quieter. This live beach cam is run by Vacation Myrtle Beach from the Sea Watch Resort and looks over the wide, flat beach and the Atlantic. The Grand Strand runs for about 60 miles of nearly unbroken sand from the North Carolina line to Winyah Bay, facing southeast, and the water off it is shallow for a long way out. On most days the surf is small, a knee- to waist-high beachbreak that suits beginners, bodyboarders and swimmers; bigger waves arrive with nor'easters in fall and winter and with swell from hurricanes passing offshore in late summer. A wind from the west or northwest blows offshore and cleans up the waves. Rip currents are a real danger here when the surf is up, especially around the low tide sandbars, and lifeguards work from mid-spring to fall. The water ranges from about 11 °C in January to around 28 °C in August. Summer is very busy, while spring and fall bring warm water with fewer people.
