Seaside Heights is the boardwalk town of the Barnegat Peninsula in Ocean County, New Jersey, and probably the busiest summer beach on the central Jersey Shore. Its boardwalk is lined with games, pizza and frozen custard stands, with Casino Pier and its rides at the southern end and the beach spread out in front. The town became known far beyond New Jersey in two very different ways: as the setting of the MTV series Jersey Shore, and through the images of Hurricane Sandy in October 2012, when the storm tore away part of Casino Pier and left its Jet Star roller coaster standing in the ocean. The pier and boardwalk were rebuilt in the years after. The live cam on this page is EarthCam's Seaside Heights North View, looking along the boardwalk towards the pier, the dunes and the beach. Lifeguards watch the beach in season and a beach fee applies in summer. The surf here is a typical Jersey beach break, small and choppy on summer sea breezes, better with autumn swells and westerly winds. Island Beach State Park, a quiet natural beach, starts just to the south. The water is about 4 °C in February and 23 °C in August.
