Washington's best-known surf spot, at Westhaven State Park beside the south jetty of Grays Harbor. The rock jetty gives the beach some shelter from northerly wind and helps sandbars form next to it, so it can work when the open coast is blown out. It takes west to south-west swell from autumn to spring, with easterly winds offshore. Cold water, thick wetsuits all year, and a loyal local crowd.
