Nørre Lyngvig is the stretch of Holmsland Klit around Lyngvig Fyr, the lighthouse built in 1906 between Søndervig and Hvide Sande on the Danish North Sea coast. The strip of dunes here is narrow, with the North Sea on one side and Ringkøbing Fjord on the other, so you can reach very different kinds of water in minutes. This webcam looks out from the top of the lighthouse, which the Ringkøbing-Skjern Museum has operated since 2011, across the dunes to the beach and the open sea. The height gives a rare overview of the shore, including any lines of swell, though the waves themselves look small from up there. Because this coast faces west with nothing to block it, west winds come in hard, and currents along a North Sea beach deserve respect. Swim with care and stay near others. Hvide Sande, Denmark's fifth-largest fishing harbour, lies just to the south. Use the surf and wind data on this page before you walk over the dune.
