Main Beach is the village beach of East Hampton, at the end of Ocean Avenue on the South Fork of Long Island, and it is often listed among the best beaches in the United States. It is a classic Hamptons beach: a broad, clean sweep of sand below grass-covered dunes, a shingled pavilion with a snack bar, showers and restrooms, and the big shingle-style houses of the village estate section behind it. This live beach cam from Hamptons.com streams in 4K and is used by local surfers as a surf report. The beach faces south-southeast, and its sandbars produce peaky beachbreak waves on swells from tropical systems in late summer and fall, nor'easters in winter and southerly wind swell in summer. North and northwest winds are offshore; afternoons in summer are often blown out by the southwest sea breeze. Lifeguards are on duty in season, and swimming and surfing areas are separated when the beach is guarded. Parking near the beach in summer is for village permit holders, with a daily fee on some days. Water temperature ranges from about 5 °C in February to around 22 °C in August.
