Nahant Beach, also called Long Beach, is the mile-and-a-half sweep of sand along the causeway that links the city of Lynn to the small peninsula town of Nahant, north of Boston. It is part of the Nahant Beach Reservation run by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation, with a large parking lot, a bathhouse and lifeguards in summer, and on clear days the Boston skyline is visible across the bay. This live cam is run by Ocean House Surf & Skate, a shop in Nahant, and looks over the beach and the water. The beach faces east-southeast into Massachusetts Bay, which is partly sheltered by the outer islands, so the surf is usually small; it comes alive on east and northeast swell from nor'easters, and on those days local surfers paddle out at the Nahant end. West and northwest winds are offshore, and the open, flat beach also draws kiteboarders on onshore and cross-shore days, especially in spring and fall. The water is cold most of the year, near 18 to 20 °C in August and about 3 °C in February, so a thick wetsuit is needed from fall to spring. Parking is paid in season.
