Yumigahama is a crescent-shaped sandy beach in Minamiizu, the town that occupies the far south of the Izu Peninsula in Shizuoka, whose name means bow beach after the curve of the shore. Minamiizu is a hilly town with an indented ria coastline facing the Pacific, no passenger railway and access by National Route 136 and buses from Shimoda, so the beach keeps a quieter feel than the resorts further north. Aerial photographs show the bay enclosed by wooded headlands, a river reaching the sea at one end. The climate is warm, with an average annual temperature of about 16.3 °C. This live cam, Yumigahama 1, is run by the Minamiizu tourism association and looks over the bay and the beach; a second camera covers another angle. The bay faces south, so it is sheltered from northerly winter winds but open to southerly swell, which on bigger days gives surfable beach-break waves while calm days suit swimming and paddleboarding in clear water.
