Sandy Ground is a village and one of the fourteen districts of Anguilla, and its harbour on Road Bay is the island's main port. The long, curved beach is backed by high cliffs and an old salt pond that is no longer worked; at the 2011 census only 230 people lived in the district. The bay has its place in the island's history: on 19 March 1969, during Operation Sheepskin, British paratroopers landed from HMS Rothesay on the beach nearby and occupied the village. This Sandy Ground beach cam is streamed from Elvis' Beach Bar, which opened on 3 March 2007 in an Anguillian Class C racing boat converted into a bar, starting with an extension cord, a garden hose and a cool box; it has since been on the Travel Channel and in USA Today readers' list of the ten best Caribbean beach bars. The picture shows the bar, the sand and the yachts anchored in Road Bay, and it is a good guide to how calm the anchorage is.
