Necochea is one of the main beach resorts on the Atlantic coast of Buenos Aires province in Argentina, roughly 500 km south of the capital, at the mouth of the Río Quequén Grande opposite the port town of Quequén. Its beaches are among the widest on this coast: a long, gently sloping stretch of fine sand, with a seafront of apartment towers near the centre and, further west, the Parque Miguel Lillo, a coastal pine forest of several hundred hectares that runs down to the dunes. The sea is the open South Atlantic, with steady swell and often fresh wind, so surfers, windsurfers and kitesurfers use different parts of the coast depending on direction, and bathers should stay in the lifeguarded balnearios flagged in summer. Water temperature ranges from about 10 °C in winter to around 19 or 20 °C in January and February, the peak holiday months, when the beach tents and parasols of the balnearios fill the sand. The live cam, streamed in 4K by Nahuel Valentini from a building above the seafront, looks over the promenade and down the long beach, which makes it easy to judge the wind, the surf and the crowds.
