Utsumi is the beach resort of Minamichita, which occupies the far end of the Chita Peninsula in Aichi, which lies between Ise Bay to the west and Mikawa Bay to the east. The town was once a port on the coastal trade route between Edo and Osaka, and today it lives from fishing, food processing and summer tourism to its beaches. Utsumi Beach, also called Chidorigahama, is a long sandy shore facing west across Ise Bay, which makes it a well-known place to watch the sun go down over the water. Meitetsu's Chita New Line ends at Utsumi Station, opened in 1980, so the beach is a direct train ride from Nagoya, and Minamichita Onsen hot springs are nearby. This live cam is published by the Minamichita tourism association under the tag Furatto Utsumi and looks along the beach and a breakwater from a height, with a time stamp and the camera name in the corner; another channel runs a separate Utsumi wave cam. Ise Bay is sheltered from Pacific swell, but strong westerly and north-westerly winds in winter can raise a short wind swell here. On calm days the beach is for swimming and paddling; check the wind forecast on this page first.
