Zushi Beach lies at the head of the Miura Peninsula in Kanagawa, facing Sagami Bay about an hour from Tokyo by train. Locals call it the half-mile beach; it is shallow, the sand is fine and free of shells, gravel and mud, and the water is usually gentle, which is why the beach is best known for windsurfing. Army doctor Ishiguro Tadanori promoted it as an ideal bathing beach from around 1892, the opening of Zushi Station on the Yokosuka Line in 1889 brought villas, and by the Taisho era it was a well-known summer resort. On clear days Mount Fuji appears across the bay, and a fireworks display is held most summers. This beach webcam is one of several run by HviewCam on the Zushi shoreline and shows the curve of the beach towards the marina; at night the lights of the coast trace the bay. Since 2014 a town ordinance has banned barbecues, drinking and amplified music on the bathing beach, so it is a quiet place in season.
