Spotorno is a small resort on the Riviera di Ponente south-west of Savona, with a long, gently curving beach of sand and fine gravel in front of the old town. Its view is defined by the Isola di Bergeggi, a little wooded island just off the coast to the north-east that is part of a marine protected area, and the waters around it are popular with snorkellers and divers. The beach faces south-east and is backed by hills, which keep out the cold northerly tramontana and give the town a mild climate; most of the sand is divided between bathing establishments, with some free public sections, and in summer the sea is usually flat and clear enough for swimming and paddleboarding to the headlands. Strong south-westerly libeccio and southerly scirocco storms are the exceptions, sending waves up the beach in autumn and winter. Sea temperature is about 13 °C in late winter and roughly 25 °C in August. The webcam is a Windy timelapse on the free beach, looking along the shore towards Bergeggi, so you can see the sea state at a glance.
