Playa El Médano is the main beach of Cabo San Lucas, a long curve of sand inside the bay at the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula, looking across to Land's End and the rock arch of El Arco. Unlike most beaches on this coast, which face the open Pacific or the exposed corridor towards San José del Cabo, El Médano is sheltered by the bay and is usually calm enough to swim, which is why it is so busy: beach clubs and hotels line the sand, vendors and water taxis work along it, and jet skis and parasails go out from the shore. The water taxis run to Playa del Amor beside the arch. Cruise ships anchor in the bay and tender their passengers to the marina, so the view on the live cam from Webcams de México often includes a ship. From December to April humpback whales pass close to the cape. The sea is coolest in February and March, around 22 °C, and warmest in September, near 29 °C, which is also the peak of the hurricane season; Hurricane Odile hit Cabo hard in 2014.
