Nanwan, South Bay, is the bay and beach near Hengchun at the southern tip of Taiwan, inside Kenting National Park; it is also called Blue Bay and, in older sources, Gualiang or Kwa-liang Bay. The bay is bounded by Cape Maobitou to the west and Cape Eluanbi to the east, and its white-sand beach is about 600 metres long. During Japanese rule it was a whaling station. Kenting, Taiwan's oldest national park, was established in 1984 and covers the Hengchun Peninsula along the Bashi Channel; it has a tropical monsoon climate, warm to hot all year, with coral reefs offshore and a rich variety of birds, butterflies and land crabs. Nanwan is one of the park's main swimming and water-sports beaches, with jet skis and banana boats in summer, and surfers ride the beach break when southerly swell or typhoon surf arrives. This live cam, provided by a seaside guesthouse and the I Love Kenting ticket centre, looks over Provincial Highway 26, the beach and the whole bay from above. A separate Nanwan surf cam was found but cannot be embedded. Summer typhoons can shut the beach, so watch our surf outlook, wind and water temperature.
