Blankenberge is one of the busiest resorts on the Belgian coast by visitor numbers and hotel bookings, drawing holidaymakers from across northern Europe to its long sandy beach. Its landmark, the Belgium Pier, stands in the middle of this beach webcam's view: an Art Deco structure 350 metres long, built in 1933. The cam is run by the town's own tourist office, Visit Blankenberge, and it looks along the sand from just above the promenade, so flags, beach furniture and walkers all give a quick sense of the weather and how crowded it is. Fishermen once landed their catch here from barges run up onto the sand, and tourists were already coming in the first half of the 18th century. The beach faces north-west onto the North Sea, which means summer afternoons can turn breezy and the sea choppy when the wind comes from that side. Swimmers should use the supervised zones in season and keep clear of the pier. The sea temperature and wind forecast below help you plan a day out, with the Coastal Tram stopping in town.
