De Panne is the westernmost town in Belgium, right up against the French border, and one of the country's most popular resorts. The Royal Sand Yacht Club sails from this beach and runs a school for newcomers, so on a windy day you may well see sand yachts racing along the shore. This webcam stands at Brasserie Leopold I on the Leopold I Esplanade, the promenade at the centre of the resort, and looks over the dunes, a small lifeguard station and the wide strand to the North Sea. It gives a fair idea of how far out the tide is, and of how many walkers have come out. Dunes frame the shore, and the sand continues without a break into France. Shore facing roughly north-west means a wind from that side blows in clear and strong. Swim only in the guarded sections during the season.
