Iwai Beach is on the western, Tokyo Bay side of Minamiboso, a city in the south of the Boso Peninsula in Chiba that is surrounded by water on three sides: the Pacific to the east and south and the entrance to Tokyo Bay to the west. Minamiboso is known for flowers, loquats, its traditional uchiwa fans, whaling and surfing, and it has a warm maritime climate shaped by the Kuroshio Current, with hot summers and mild winters. The bathing beach at Iwai is a long sandy shore on a sheltered bay, close to Iwai Station on the JR Uchibo Line. This live cam belongs to the Minamiboso live camera network, which also streams Wadaura, roadside stations and the flower fields of the city, and it frames the sand and the sheltered water. On the west-facing bay coast the sea is usually calm, so Iwai is a swimming and paddling beach; the best show is often the evening, when the sun sets over the water towards the Miura Peninsula. Check the wind forecast before paddling out on a breezy afternoon.
