Maebara Beach is the town beach of Kamogawa, a Chiba city on the Pacific side of southern Boso. The area was part of ancient Awa Province, and the Buddhist teacher Nichiren was born in 1222 in Kominato, now a district of the city, where the temple Tanjo-ji marks his birthplace. In 1958 Kamogawa's coast became part of the Minami Boso Quasi-National Park, and that turned the town into a holiday destination; the Kamogawa Sea World aquarium stands on the shore a little to the north-east. The beach is a long sweep of sand in front of the town centre, backed by hotels, with the hills of the Boso range behind. This live cam, from the channel Nami no Sketch (sketch of the waves), carries the label Kamogawa Seaside and shows the beach and the surf from the sand; its title advertises wave information, and its preview image shows lines of white water rolling in. Open to the south-east, the beach picks up Pacific swell and is surfed regularly, while summer days with small waves are for swimming. The climate is humid subtropical with an average temperature of about 15.5 °C. Check the forecast and the tide here.
