Kujiranami is the leading bathing beach of Kashiwazaki, a city on the Sea of Japan coast of Niigata Prefecture, and it is listed among Japan's 100 best beaches. The name means whale wave. It is a wide, open beach dotted with rocky outcrops, and the water quality is usually rated AA, the highest grade, so on fine days the sea is a clear blue; sea kayak tours run here in summer. Visitors come from across Niigata and from the northern Kanto region and Nagano, and in the season beach huts open on the sand while the road down from the station is lined with shops, guesthouses and inns. Kujiranami Station on the JR Shinetsu Line is about a minute's walk from the shore, and seasonal Marine Blue Kujiranami trains once ran here directly from Kumagaya. Nearby are Kashiwazaki port and marina and the Fukura Hakkei coastline of rocks and coves. This live camera is streamed by Travel Japan Live Channel (Sora Irodori) as a sunset view over the Sea of Japan, with background music; it faces west, so it is dark at night.
