Grüner Brink is a nature reserve on the north coast of Fehmarn, near the ferry port of Puttgarden, where a strip of beach and dunes has closed off shallow lagoons behind it. Outside the protected lagoons, the beach in front of the reserve is one of the island's best-known kitesurfing and windsurfing spots, facing north into the Fehmarn Belt towards the Danish island of Lolland. The live webcam looks out from above the shore over the beach and the open water. Westerly winds run along the coast here, and north-westerly or north-easterly winds blow onshore and build a short Baltic chop that freestyle and wave riders enjoy, while southerly winds are offshore and not safe for kiting. Inside the reserve, the lagoons and dunes are closed to walkers and riders to protect breeding birds, so follow the marked paths and launch only in the permitted areas; zoning on Fehmarn is enforced. The beach is sandy with some stones, and the water gets deep faster than on the island's south side. Facilities are basic, with car parks near the reserve and the village of Puttgarden close by.
