Horie Beach is on the coast of Matsuyama, the capital of Ehime Prefecture and the largest city on Shikoku, where the north of the city meets the Iyo-nada sea of the Seto Inland Sea. It lies next to JR Horie Station and the Horie Sea Station Umiterasu, a waterfront facility on the site of the former Horie ferry port, and the Kutsuna Islands, an archipelago of 29 islands that also belongs to Matsuyama, dot the sea offshore. Because the Inland Sea is enclosed by Honshu, Shikoku and Kyushu, ocean swell does not reach this beach, and the water is usually calm, with tides that change the shoreline noticeably during the day. That makes it a beach for swimming, paddleboarding and windsurfing: in the frame checked for this page a windsurfer was sailing between marker buoys. This live camera is run by Horie Marine House, which streams two views, one over the sea and one facing the sunset; its titles note that the sunset can be seen from March to October.
