Ichimatsu Beach lies in Chosei, a village on the southern part of the Kujukuri Plain in Chiba, where the Ichinomiya River reaches the Pacific. It is one section of Kujukuri Beach, the sandy shore that curves for about 60 km from Cape Gyobumi in Asahi to Cape Taito in Isumi, the second-longest beach in Japan and a popular swimming and surfing coast for people from Greater Tokyo; the whole shore is protected as Kujukuri Prefectural Natural Park. The coast here is straight, flat and open to the east, so it takes swell from almost any easterly or southerly direction, with beach-break peaks shifting along sandbars. The camera is no tourist webcam: it is the village's tide-level monitoring camera, published by Chosei on its official channel; it watches the beach and the surf zone day and night, which makes it a useful check on the sea state. The beach is reached along the Kujukuri toll road and National Route 128, and the nearest station is Yatsumi on the JR Sotobo Line. Use the camera with the surf forecast and the tide times on this page; strong onshore winds blow the waves out quickly on this exposed coast.
