Aoshima Beach is the sandy shore beside Aoshima, a small island just off the coast in the south of Miyazaki city that is joined to the mainland by a footbridge and covered in subtropical forest. The whole island is the precinct of Aoshima Shrine, dedicated to the deities Hikohohodemi no Mikoto and Toyotama-hime, and its palm-filled grove makes it one of the best-known sights of the Nichinan coast. The beach north of the island is a family bathing beach in summer and a surf beach the rest of the year, and JR Aoshima Station on the Nichinan Line is a short walk away. Along with Kizakihama a few kilometres to the north, it faces the open Pacific to the east, so typhoon and low-pressure swells reach it directly. This live cam belongs to ii-nami.com's wave-information network and looks over the dunes and the beach to the surf, with the island at the edge of the frame; the stream title shows the date and Aoshima Live Camera. Miyazaki's climate is warm and humid, and typhoon season brings the biggest swells and the heaviest rain.
