The beach where surfing arrived in Europe in 1957, below the cliffs just south of Biarritz town centre. The wave is gentle and rolling, suited to longboards and beginners, and surf schools line the promenade above. High tide swallows almost all of the sand, so sessions are timed around mid to low water. It needs a decent W or NW swell; easterly or south-easterly winds clean it up.
