Sicily's big kite lagoon, between Marsala and the island of Isola Lunga, where the water is flat and often only waist-deep for hundreds of metres. It works in most wind directions, with the afternoon thermal and the north-westerly maestrale doing most of the work from spring to autumn. Kite schools line the shore near the old salt pans, and in peak season the launch areas get busy.
