Long, pine-backed beach on the Bay of Marathon, under an hour from Athens and the capital's main windsurf and kite spot. The meltemi blows from the north-east, side-shore along the beach, and the water stays shallow near the sand. Summer weekends bring crowds from the city. The Olympic rowing and canoe course lies in the wetland just behind the beach.
