Long, straight beach break on the Gironde coast, backed by dunes and pine forest, and one of the historic homes of French surfing. Shifting sandbanks spread peaks along the beach; it works best on a mid-sized W or NW swell with light easterly winds. Summer brings small, crowded waves and lifeguarded zones, and autumn is the prime season. Watch the baïnes, tidal channels that pull hard on the dropping tide.
